Tata Motors today launched its first product of the year, the new Tata Xenon Yodha, in the presence of its newly appointed brand ambassador, Akshay Kumar. Setting new benchmarks in the pick-up segment, the new Tata Xenon Yodha is suitable for a wide range of commercial applications – a rugged, comfortable, safe and stylish work horse, characterised by everyday practicality, high levels of performance and lowest operating cost.

The Tata Xenon Yodha comes with impressive features that gives it a competitive edge among other pick-ups. The smart pick-up is available in multiple variants – 4×2 & 4×4 and in single & double cab options. Powered by a common rail diesel engine, the new Tata Xenon Yodha delivers high power and torque, for varied business requirements, for ease of day-to-day operations. The new Tata Xenon Yodha is an ideal solution for diverse commercial usage transporting agri-produce (Fruits & Vegetable), poultry, fish, milk, a cash van, a service support vehicle at construction sites. etc.

Tata Xenon Yodha – Performance & Ruggedness

The new Tata Xenon Yodha has the best ground clearance of 210 mm, courtesy inclusion of a Tubular front axle, which also ensures best manoeuvrability both on and off road. Powered by a 3.0-litre engine, the Xenon Yodha is characterised by power. With an output of 53.7 kW (72 HP) in BSIII & 63.4 kW (85 HP) in BS IV, the engine delivers high torque of 223Nm in BS III & 250 Nm in BS IV. For better mileage, the smart pick-up has a reliable and rugged gear box, for a flat curve at 1600-2200 r/min. This aids in in better pick up in loaded condition, also ensuring lesser gear shifts.

One of the key highlights of the new Xenon Yodha include high gradability enabling the vehicle to negotiate any terrains in loaded conditions, supported by bigger 16 inch tyre. The durable body is supported by 4 mm chassis frame, with reinforcements and a strong rear axle with unitized double bearing. The additional strong suspension – 5-leaves at the front & 9-leaves at rear, ensures better safety in loaded conditions and at high speeds.

Tata Xenon Yodha – Comfort & Convenience

The Tata Xenon Yodha promises to offer great cabin comfort with a Power Steering and an adjustable steering column. The interior of the new smart pick-up reinforces numerous specially designed utility spaces inside cabin, which are ideal for a convenient driving style. Tata Motors 2016 December 2016 Sales

  • Passenger vehicle segment grew by 35%, due to continued positive response for the Tata Tiago
  • Exports continued to grow at 12% in December 2016, on account of strong demand for Tata Motors’ commercial vehicles.
  • Bus segment witnessed a growth of 59%, over last year, driven particularly by Government/STU, Intercity, Staff application segments.
  • In M&HCVs, Construction vehicles grew by 22% Y-O-Y

Tata Motors passenger and commercial vehicle total sales (including exports) in December 2016 were at 40,944 vehicles, 2% growth over 39,973 vehicles sold in December 2015. The company’s domestic sales of Tata commercial and passenger vehicles for December 2016 was at 35,825 nos., a growth of 1%, over December 2015. Cumulative sales (including exports) of the company for the fiscal was at 391,493 nos., higher by 7% over 364,939 vehicles, sold last year.

Domestic – Passenger Vehicles

In December 2016, Tata Motors passenger vehicles, in the domestic market, recorded sales at 10,827 nos., with a growth of 35%, over December 2015. The passenger car sales continued its growth momentum at 40%, due to strong demand for the Tata Tiago, with sales showing an increasing trend.

Cumulative sales growth of all passenger vehicles in the domestic market, this fiscal, were 112,539 nos., a growth of 17%, compared to 95,979 nos., in last fiscal.

Domestic – Commercial Vehicles

The overall commercial vehicles sales in December 2016, in the domestic market were at 24,998 nos., lower by 9% over December 2015. Market continues to remain under pressure due to the impact of demonetization, which was felt across segments, particularly in the long haul cargo segment.

However, the construct segment continued to grow strongly by 22% due to increase in road construction as contractors have started on ground execution of projects, the coal & iron ore mining segment is also gaining momentum. Bus sales grew by 59%, over last year. Cumulative sales of commercial vehicles in the domestic market for the fiscal were at 230,407 nos. higher by 1% over last year.

Exports

The company’s sales from exports was at 5,119 nos. in December 2016, a growth of 12% compared to 4,557 vehicles sold in December 2015. The cumulative sales from exports for the fiscal was at 48,547 nos., higher by 19%, over 40,900 nos., sold last year.

Tata Motors is all set to launch the Hexa SUV in India. Recent media reports have revealed that the Hexa will be launched in January 2017. But before its official launch, various details about the upcoming SUV have come to light.

We had earlier reported that the Hexa will be powered by the same VARICOR 400 diesel engine that does duty under the Safari Storme. This engine will be capable of generating 154 BHP @ 4,000 rpm and a peak torque of 400 Nm @ 1,700-2,700 rpm. The Hexa will also get four driving modes – Auto, Comfort, Dynamic and Rough Road.

Recent insider information about the upcoming Tata SUV reveals many details about its placement and feature list. Please note that these aren’t official revelations, and thus there is scope for some changes in the final feature list.

  • Tata Hexa will come in 5 manual (XE 4×2, XM 4×2, XM 4×4, XT 4×2, XT 4×4) and 4 automatic variants (XMA 4×2, XMA 4×4, XTA 4×2, XTA 4×4)
  • All variants will have the 154 BHP power output figure
  • Entry-level XE trim will have a 5-speed transmission, while all other variants get 6-speed transmissions (manual and automatic)
  • The automatic gearbox is codenamed “G6450”; G=Gear box, 6=number of gears, and 450=maximum handling torque in Nm
  • The automatic transmission is a torque converter unit, and follows the P-R-N-D-(+)M/S(-) shift pattern. It weighs 90 kgs and costs Rs. 7 lakhs
  • If the AT is damaged, it cannot be repaired. Replacing it is the only option
  • XT and XTA variants will come with 6 airbags, while the lower XM & XE variants will have 2 airbags
  • ABS is standard across the range
  • XT trim will also get electronic stability programme (ESP)
  • Added safety equipment on offer includes EBD (Electronic Brake-Force Distribution), VDC (Vehicle Dynamic Control), ROM (Roll-Over Mitigation, with ESP), HBA (Hydraulic Brake Assistance), HHC/HDC (Hill Hold Control/Hill Descent Control) & TCS (Traction Control System)
  • Hill Hold Control (HHC) stays activated for 3 seconds, after which you need to apply the brakes/handbrake
  • XM and XT variants will get a 10-speaker (6 normal speakers and 4 tweeters) sound system
  • The instrument cluster and infotainment system on the XM and XT trim levels will support voice-activated commands
  • Instrument cluster will have different coloured zone display for fuel level – Green, Orange & Red. It will also showcase the Distance to Empty (DTE) reading
  • The Hexa will get flippy, foldable keys
  • Higher variants will get 19-inch alloy wheels
  • 1st Free Service at 3 months/5,000 kms, whichever is earlier
    2nd Free Service at 6 months/10,000 kms, whichever is earlier
    3rd Free Service at 12 months/20,000 kms, whichever is earlier
  • Subsequent paid service intervals – 12 months/20,000 kms, whichever comes earlier
  •  Tata will be offering a 3 years/1,50,000 km standard warranty for the Hexa

The Hexa will be marketed under the tagline ‘Confident Luxury’. Though pricing still isn’t finalized, speculations suggest a placement in the range of Rs. 11 lakh – Rs. 18 lakh.
