Maxion Wheels breaks ground for passenger vehicle aluminium plant in India

Maxion Wheels celebrates new passenger vehicle aluminum wheel plant with traditional Bhoomi Poojan ground breaking ceremony on Feb. 19, 2018.

Pune, INDIA – MaxionWheels, the world’s largest wheel manufacturer, today held a ground breaking ceremony (Bhoomi Poojan) on the future site of its 25,000 square meters plant in Khed City, Pune. Hundreds of guests, including company dignitaries, customers, suppliers and associates attended the traditional Hindu event, which included a plaque unveiling and traditional ground breaking ritual.

During his ceremony speech, Maxion Wheels’ Chief Executive Officer, Pieter Klinkers remarked on the significance of the event, “With our new Pune passenger car aluminum wheel plant, Maxion Wheels becomes the first global light vehicle aluminum wheel producer in the Indian market. We responded to our growing global customers’ requests, and made the investment to join them in the world’s fastest-growing economy. When our project is complete, we will produce four million aluminum wheels annually. In this first phase, an investment of more than $50 million USD will be spent on the land and state-of-the-art plant and equipment for the manufacturing of two million wheels annually. Start of production is expected in the third quarter of 2019.”

The new wholly-owned operation, expected to initially bring more than 1,000 new direct and indirect jobs to the region, will produce low pressure die cast aluminum wheels with a high-end wheel finish.

Maxion Wheels will spend more than $50M USD for the 25,000 square meters state-of-the-art plant, land and equipment which will initially produce two million passenger vehicle premium aluminum wheels a year. Production is expected to begin in the third quarter 2019.

Steel Strips Wheels Ltd (SSWL) bags order from BMW


products-rightOn February 12, 2018 the SSWL bagged an order from Caravan Wheels in Europe for 19,500 steel wheels. The company has picked up another order from BMW for supplying approximately 46,000 steel wheels. The product would be supplied to BMW’s Leipzig, Germany plant from the Chennai plant starting next financial year. SSWL and BMW have strong business relationship for the past eight years.

An established designer and manufacturer of automotive steel wheels since 1991 the company supplies steel wheels for two- and three-wheelers, passenger cars, multi utility vehicles, tractors, trucks and off-road vehicles.

The company has three production facilities in India (Punjab, Chennai and Jamshedpur). The Punjab and Chennai facility mainly manufactures passenger car wheels and truck wheels in Jamshedpur. It has a total annual capacity of 16.6 million wheels – (9 million wheels in Dappar, 6 million wheels in Oragadam and 1.6 million truck wheels in Jamshedpur).
